Its been a really long time since I've blogged, and a lot has been happenin over here, so I will just update with high lights and about a million pictures.
-My sister came for a visit a while back, and while she was here we went decided to go park hopping in SF. We found some beautiful places with goregous views, and couldn't help but appreciate how green everything was, what with all the storms we've been having. Everything feels so new and fresh and wonderful-so that was a fun visit and fun adventure!
-We've spent a lot of time playing with friends and family, indoors [at friends houses, libraries, and play places] and outdoors [at parks, beaches and the zoo], and the girls have grown leaps and bounds in their kindness, imagination and social skills. I know part of that is because of the wonderful people we've been spending time with, so thats been good for all of us.We've had a few fun FHE's and get togethers. We enjoyed a visit with some extended family that we havent seen in a long time, and it was great watching this next generation enjoy each other. Another one of our favorite activities was when Daddy set up a soccer game one night with a bunch of friends from his work and in the ward. It was blast, and when people weren't in the game, they were great about playing 'red light green light dance light' with the girls. We enjoyed it!
-As a family one of our goals this year has been to have a healthier lifestyle. Of course, that translates to the way we are eating and the exercise we are getting. And even though it is only March, so far we have stuck with this! I still love to cook and learn about new foods, we are just making it delicious, healthier foods, and making our splurges much more planned. And we have been hiking, swimming, running, playing soccer, weight lifting, dancing etc every day. It actually has been a lot more fun then I expected! So I'm really happy with that! One favorite work out was a run/hike past Mori point. We started at the end of the beach, and were almost to linda mar on a beautiful sunny Sunday, we out of no where, the sky unleashed an intense hail storm on us. I was shocked how much it hurt! And of course we were no where near something to hide under, so we had to use our coats and try to run through it since the car was so far haha. Luckily the stroller completely shielded the girls and they slept through it. But still, a fun little adventure haha!
-I got to throw together a fun little get together with my friends for a friend of ours from church. I hadn't baked in so long that it was a treat, and thanks to help with the menu and the decorations it was fun little shindig. So that was nice!
-Book club as always has been a total high light for me. I love that its an excuse for two good things-making time for myself while visiting with friends, and also to read. While the official meetings we have are my favorite, I have enjoyed reading so much that I have started my own marathon of Agatha Christie books this year. Did you know that she has written over a 100 books in her lifetime? And they are all so good! After the Bible, and Shakespeare alone, she is the best selling novelist of all time. My goal is to read all her books by the end of 2017, and at the pace I am going I should make it fine [as well as the actual assigned book club reading of course!]
-In preparation for a get together we were having [and a rare Saturday that Lester had off] we went to the Embarcadero farmers market. The thing is, some people don't get our food hobby. I think they think about food as a necessity and a means to end, with maybe some unhealthy consequences [which can be 100% true if not done in moderation, like ANY hobby]. But for us, its something we can learn about together, whether its just for the sake of creating something special to share, or to fulfill a personal craving. That said, I think some of the most important people and events in my life, have had food as a component in it. Things like memories of baking with my Mom, making Lester a Valentine's gift, learning about my heritage or other parts of the world through it, making beautiful things that taste good as well, getting my creative juices flowing, getting to share a part of your heart as I serve people something I worked hard on, and so on and so forth. My Mom taught me to bake, her and my Uncles helped me learn how to cook, some college friends helped further my skills and explore new flavors and tastes, and Lester and I have shared so many good learning experiences together as a result. I LOVE it. So I've had fun exploring that further and improving my skills and ideas with Lester.
-It was my 29th birthday this week, and true to form, Lester and everyone made me feel so special. Every year I am filled with gratitude for all the love I feel from my friends and family, and especially Lester and the girls. We got croissants from Artiscault in the morning, went to our favorite book store, ordered a cake from Schubert's, got our daily run and soccer play in, then all 4 of us went for pedicures and manicures. Then, that night a dear friend watched the girls while Lester and I got to do some fine dining at Acquello. A perfect day followed by a perfect night! Then, on Sunday we had a bunch of friends of over for dinner and cake, games, and fun. Its hard to say what was the best part-the food [smoked pork and coleslaw from my Uncle Steve bc he's awesome, grilled hawaiian chicken, rice, hawaiian rolls, fruit and chips made by Lester and friends, and a Schuberts chocolate truffle cake-and we had so much fun that I forgot to take pictures of any of the spread darnit], the games [heads up, wacky six/pounce, pit], or the just hanging out with all my favorite people. And to boot, it was a goregous, sunny Sunday, with a purpley pink sunset, and beach walk with the family before.
-The girls started their first soccer classes yesterday. It was so fun to watch them interact with the other kids, and put all that cute energy they have to good use! I can't wait to see how they do over the course of the class, and get pictures of them in their little uniforms. In between classes, we got to enjoy the beach while Daddy exercised, and it was perfect.
So that is the highlights of what we have been up to since January! So far, I would consider it a year well spent. Can't wait to see how the rest of it pans out, we've got a lot of exciting stuff on the horizons! Life is good!
