Pit Stop from Real Life

On Tuesday this week, Lester finished what we hope to be the last day of his undergrad career. Although he'd already has his Bachelor's degree under his belt for a while, this post back program was necessary to sort of fill in the blanks for what we didn't take before we decided to go this medical school route. I feel like its kind of silly to even mention it, because it is no where near the end or beginning of anything-more like a bit of a pit stop in a very long road race, that could potentially not even pan out [I mean hopefully it will, but who knows]...but still. I'm really proud of him and his commitment and hard work and sacrifice. We all love him and see all he does for us.

Now its on to training for the next leg of the race-MCAT study. However, for the last few days, before he dives into that whole hog, he spent some time just hanging with us. No time limits or rushing around-just 100% Daddy/husband time. I think I've always kind of hated the idea of the fireman type of schedule because its always been coupled with full time school as well, so it hasn't been the best experience. But this week, I've finally seen the upside to it. Now, I'm dreaming about the days of just work on the weekends, and nothing but family times and adventures throughout the week, just like its been recently.

So-we've been all over our favourite city in the world, San Francisco of course-but to places that we're not super familiar with. And its been AMAZING. As if there weren't enough things to love here-now our list is even longer-I sincerely don't know how were ever going to leave here someday.

On Tuesday, we slept in before heading out to Tartine bakery. To say it was great would be an understatement-it was hard to narrow it down on what to get, so we tried several things. Then we had to grab some Mitchell's b/c you know-ice cream. And then in an effort to work off all the calories we had just taken in we went for little hike at Lover's Lane in the Presidio. I loved it bc it was a like a little forest escape in a very urban area and it was all gorgeous. Then we did some more general exploring in that area. No matter how long we live here, we are always finding things we haven't done and reaffirming our love for this city.

[having made croissants, let me just tell you this many laminations is impressive!]

Wednesday we headed to a place that had the best croissants I have ever had at Ariscault Bakery[and you know me and my long standing relationship with croissants!]. Its fairly small and new, but they are good at what they do, and they sell out every day in the morning and close by 1:00 [just to give you an idea of how good it is]. They only have a few options but every single thing we had was nye on perfect. The chocolate almond one we still warm from the oven when we got it. Amazing. Anywho-from here we headed back to the Presidio to play at Julius Kahn Park with the kids, and of course, it was beautiful and fun to just spend time with our littles. From here we went to Enlightenment Pointe and it was aptly named. The kids did us a favour posing and being silly, and then we headed over to Smitten's ice cream [in Haye's Valley, which we need to explore more!] which is made right in front of you with liquid nitrogen. We ate it at this amazing wood, incredibly intricate gazebo we noticed when we got there. After the girls finished, they did some climbing on the maze structure they had there, before stopping for hot dogs for dinner at Underdogs [which I thought was overrated but Lester thought was good]. That night Lester held down the fort while I went to a little girls night with some friends.

Thursday Lester came with us and did swimming lessons with Isla, which was a nice change up. We always go to Lester's parents for breakfast afterwards, so we did that and decided after hanging out for a bit to go on another impromptu outing. This was probably one of my favourite days bc we went to Dandelion Chocolate's-which is a small batch chocolate factory. HEAVEN I tell you. After ordering almost everything on the menu to split between all of us, we sat on the bar and watched them make the chocolate from beginning to end. It was so cool-and they were so great about making it interactive, giving the girls tastes and explaining the process etc. When we left, we got the kids a book geared towards them about chocolate making. All in all it was amazing, and I'm thinking Lester and I may need to come back for a class. From here we stopped at good old Dolores Park-Surprisingly it was fairly empty and we loved the views and fun from the Park. Again, making memories and strengthening relationships with our families is one of the millions of reasons we are living here right now. So it has been great.

Friday and Saturday Lester was back at work, so it was back to the 3 of us again. We met up with some friends at the beach Friday morning, and Saturday we celebrated with the Lualamaga's at Lelua's graduation party [which feels impossible since he should still be a baby]!

Sunday Lester gave an awesome talk and in the afternoon we went with my family on a walk in Rockaway Beach, which was filled with all the best things and made me even more glad we are living here now.

Monday was Memorial Day, and it was filled to the brim with fun things to do. We met up at my in laws place [where her famous hot chocolate was waiting for us] before heading out to the Academy. Our pass was expiring this month, and we've definitely gotten bang for our buck with it-but we had never gone with them before, so it was a treat. It wasn't too crowded and we covered a lot of ground. Addy said her favourite part is still the star fish, Isla's is the butterflies and Lester and liked the albino alligator. And I love it all! After this we went to Taraval to get some Japanese for lunch from one of our favourite places, and of course Marco Polo for gelato. But that was only half of our day! From here, we grabbed our swim stuff and the lemon bars I made the night before, and headed over to beautiful Atherton to celebrate in typical 'merica fashion. My friend Becca and her bf Conrad hosted a BBQ and pool party with a few friends. The food and a company was great, and we ended it with a Warrior's win, clinching the spot in the series.

All in all it has been a stretch of dreamy days full of outside time, good food and great company-and even though I'm not looking forward to it them ending, routine isn't a bad thing and I'm sure there will be many more days like it to come.
