For a while now the girls have been telling me they wanted to go camping-so a few months ago when I saw a coveted spot at Kirby Cove was open, I HAD to snatch it up-I mean-it would be wrong NOT to right? Right!

For this reason, it was a fun little thing when time hop popped up w pictures of our last trip to Kirby Cove. Since then of course, a few things have changed [see this post]. We've added another member to our family with Bear, Addy has started school, and Isla has lost a lot of that sweet little baby chub we miss so much. That trip was a lot of fun and we made a lot of memories-but for the girls, the one that stood out the most was how the raccoons stole their banana boat desserts right out of our laps. If I'm honest, I think this was one of the main reasons they wanted to go here again haha-to be able to actually make AND eat their banana boats this time. So, we prepped the night before and headed out after picking up Addy from school on Tuesday.

The entire the way their, the girls were beaming, and when we got there and started setting up, they were ecstatic. With the huge backdrop of trees and the bridge, and the crashing of the waves on the sand as their soundtrack, they adapted to this natural environment real quick. There is something about being outside in nature-even Bear, who was camping for the first time, seemed confused at first, but eventually joined the girls in playing in the grass and dirt and making animal noises. After we finished our dinner, we headed over to the battalions and the beach to play in the sand and look at cool rocks, and get our feet freezing cold in the water.

After some more play time and a much anticipated fire, we put the banana boats on as the girls guarded them from raccoons. We talked, and played, even sang some fun songs. It wasn't fancy or crazy, but it was us and it was fun, and perfect and I'm so glad we did it. Once it got dark outside, with the bridge, city lights and fire beaming the moonlight, we called it a night and went to bed. Despite a middle of the night bathroom run without my glasses, it was a fairly smooth night.

















Like I said, we feel the winds of change coming, so it was nice to do something simple, but out of the ordinary with the people we love the most. That, and getting to actually EAT our banana boats this time made a for a perfect little trip that I'm sure I'll reflect on when times get rough.
